All Seton Hall fans wanted for Christmas was the return of Fuquan Edwin and Patrik Auda to the Pirates lineup. This Sunday versus Eastern Washington, the long suffering Pirates fans got their wish and then some. Both players returned to the floor, with Auda returning ahead of schedule after the foot injury he suffered against Oklahoma on November 22nd. Edwin suffered a severely sprained ankle against LIU on December 5th. It was told to the media by Willard that Edwin's return would be against Eastern Washington, but Auda's condition was a little bit of a mystery. Willard tweeted out a picture of Auda shooting around on November 29th, but it was assumed he would be back for the Lafayette game on December 27th. Edwin participated in pregame warmups with the team against NJIT on December 10th, but did not play in the game.
Seton Hall missed both players scoring and leadership. Auda was averaging 12 ppg. while Edwin was averaging 13.8 ppg in 2013-14.
The fans at the Prudential Center erupted when Auda and Edwin entered the game at the under 16 media time out on Sunday. Without these two players and the loss of Sterling Gibbs to a hyperextended knee, the Pirates were upset in overtime by MAAC Conference member St. Peter's. It was St. Peter's first win against Seton Hall in 17 years.
Seton Hall will be back to full strength when Gibbs comes back to the lineup. The sophomore point guard looked like he hurt his knee severely against St. Peter's, but the injury turned out to be not as serious as first thought. The Pirates floor general and leading scorer might be back for conference play against Providence on December 31st, but it's a better bet he'll return at Creighton on January 4th or home against Villanova according to sources at Seton Hall.
